For the love of green (and blue for that matter).

I've always said green is my favorite color and my time at home this week has reconfirmed my love. I know I often get my fix of outdoorsy greenness when I walk through Central Park, but the green of the untamed forest behind my house and the trees that line the pond put Central Park's greenery to shame. It's also possible I'm enjoying my time in suburbia way too much (Target, I love you!) and everything seems a little brighter here. Just a few more days to soak it all in!

The Hamptons. Part 2.

Here's a bit more of our adventure in the Hamptons taken with my film camera. I still can't get over the blue sky and wispy clouds. It was so nice to be out of the city for the day and get to play on a beach with so few people. Of course, we left wondering how do we make buying a Hampton beach house happen? ;)  photo Photo01_1_zpsa3e7f5ae.jpg photo Photo02_2_zps2270a7b4.jpg photo Photo03_3_zps98cf9d01.jpg photo Photo08_8_zps535eb005.jpg photo Photo04_4_zpsbe786d52.jpg photo Photo11_11_zpsdf165305.jpg photo Photo10_10_zps193dbb8f.jpg photo Photo12_12_zps4d1b3d68.jpg photo Photo13_13_zps8ccf9a51.jpg photo Photo14_14_zps4fe2aee2.jpg photo Photo06_6_zps4afc2d0d.jpg photo Photo15_15_zps4164ac57.jpg photo Photo16_16_zps0c0c3af0.jpg photo Photo18_18_zps6d6fed9f.jpg photo Photo22_22_zpsc1b477fe.jpg

A day in the Hamptons.

Gosh that place is beautiful. We went on a perfectly crisp day and enjoyed a day of beach walking, house admiring, and ice cream eating. We also took some pictures with my film camera and I'm excited to see the result. Although, half way through the roll I realized Aaron hadn't been adjusting any of the settings other than focus :) The results may be special. Everyone go to the Hamptons now! photo IMG_9373_zpsc7f10336.jpg photo IMG_9377_zps3d77ad5c.jpg photo IMG_9382_zpsc1f8ec6d.jpg photo IMG_9386_zpsc056649a.jpg photo IMG_9393_zpsb9966a98.jpg photo IMG_9408_zpsc292c6c4.jpg photo IMG_9415_zps59672edc.jpg photo IMG_9422_zpsd004933f.jpg photo IMG_9425_zpsbb479678.jpg photo IMG_9437_zpsaa4410f8.jpg photo IMG_9441_zpsce335de6.jpg photo IMG_9447_zpsfc4e15d9.jpg photo IMG_9452_zpsa71b61a5.jpg

It's a GIRL!

In case you haven't heard, my sister (sees) is having a baby and it's a GIRL! I can't tell you how much anticipation went into waiting for this moment and we couldn't be happier. Of course my mom bit into the cupcake first (she was never one for following rules), and yelled "it's a girl!" before I had finished my bite. I don't blame her, we couldn't wait to find out! Best. news. ever.

New York Fashion Week.

A week later and I'm still asking myself what in the world was I doing at Fashion Week?? This anticipated New York event has always been something I witnessed from afar in places like People Magazine or Us Weekly. Please know, my cool factor is still ridiculously low, but at the very least I can put a big check next to the "Attend Fashion Week" box on my New York to-do list.  I really didn't know what to expect from the whole "scene", but I quickly learned it's mostly a place style-bloggers and other semi-self obsessed people flock to get their picture taken. It's possible that I have no idea who these people are and they actually are famous -- but I get the feeling anyone can show up with a cool outfit and get photographed. It's weird. Anyway, my co-worker Christine and I participated in the events and sought out to find photographers wearing ONA. We also got to watch a live feed of the Rebecca Minkoff show, see Janelle Monae perform, and meet my all time favorite blogger Taza. It was a good day, and one I'll use someday to give my kids that illusion that I was cool once.   photo IMG_8906_zpsf7765c5f.jpg photo IMG_8907_zpseeef5132.jpg photo IMG_8914_zpse10afc81.jpg photo IMG_8922_zpsdcc82cfe.jpg photo IMG_8931_zps80220f5d.jpg
^this is me getting awkward when Huffington Post asked to take a picture of my hair. Check out my shifty, nervous feet.

I love you, Central Park.

Central Park continually proves to be my favorite part of New York. At the risk of sound uber-cheesy, it actually feels magical to me. We live a block and half from the park and find ourselves there almost daily. We walk and walk and walk and find new places that we haven't seen the day before. We take one different turn and end up in a new part. There's a turtle pond, willow trees, and grass for days. If you go up far enough you'll find a pool which nobody ever tells you about, and there are huge rocks to climb around every bend. I love that you can find refuge from all the buildings, and yet if you go to just the right place you can get a drop-your-jaw view of those buildings you've escaped. I constantly marvel at the fact that Central Park is something that's just in our lives now. I think about all the times I've walked its paths as a tourist and never could have fathomed taking nightly walks there with my husband. It's just so MAGICAL, I don't know how else to say it. I spent the morning there last Wednesday before work and was so romanced. There were dog walkers, and businessmen, people on their morning runs. It was inspiring and just so beautiful. When I think about us moving away someday there are certainly restaurants and other spots I'll dearly miss, but the park just two blocks from my home has my whole New York heart.

Hello again!

Why hello there! I have been anxiously awaiting the day that I felt like blogging again, and I think the day has come. I often find it hard to want to blog after a full day of sitting in front of the computer. It's when I remember how much I enjoy sharing our adventures and looking through them time and time again that I realize it's something I really do like.

We had a wonderful New York summer, and I feel proud to have survived the hell that is New York City subway stations. I've found the key to surviving them in case you wanted to know:

  • Wear your hair up every.single.day
  • Expect to look like crap once you get to your destination

There really is very little room for looking cute when you step outside, walk several blocks to a station, and stand waiting for an average of 3 minutes in a rat-ridden place that feels like a hot hair dryer. I really do love New York most days!

Anyway, thank you for graciously welcoming me back, dear readers. I'm hoping the fall will hold lots of fun (and less sweaty) adventures.

This is my favorite dress of the moment. I wear it most Saturdays. And many other days, let's be honest.
