"If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

Mt. Vernon.

I've been talking about Mt. Vernon forever. Well, really just since we moved downtown and became living, breathing "Washingtonians." It only seemed right to see the home of our original founding father to make us the truest of true. On Sunday, we finally went! The grounds were beautiful, and I think the funniest thing is that we paid money to tour the house and then when our tour wasn't for an another two and half hours our sleepy eyes wanted a nap more than seeing the inside of Washington's house. Oh well. My favorite part was the reenactment and, of course, the view.

Chambray.

Do you know what Chambray shirts remind me of? The 1990's. I doubt I was in anyway enlightened to fashion at that point in my life, but there's nothing quite like a soft denim shirt to bring you back.

On one of our first dates Aaron wore a chambray shirt. Totally cool, the 90's didn't cross my mind, and obviously I thought he looked great. I also was newly infatuated and hadn't honed in on my detail-oriented giftings at that point. Life goes on, we date, get married, and find ourselves at the beach with my family over Labor Day weekend. My now semi-fashion-aware self goes shopping at the beach outlets to purchase my very own, very in style, chambray shirt from J. Crew. The comedy chimes in when we realized that our chambray shirts ARE IDENTICAL. I'm talking buttons on the same side, he's wearing a woman's shirt identical. Cue the quote, "I always thought the shoulders felt a little tight." We made him roll down his leaves and sure enough, WOMEN'S SHIRT. Thank goodness, I'm a nice wife and surprised him with a new shirt (from the Men's section.) a week later.

Moving on. On Thursday my sister texts me this picture:

I respond with this picture:

9 hours later we take this picture:

Go Chambray!

Perks of City Living.

1. Biking anywhere and everywhere. I much prefer it over driving these days. Sometimes it even gives me an excuse to skip the gym ;)

2. Magical alley ways. Even though I always make Aaron go first to make sure we don't run into any spiderwebs. He's a nice husband.

3. So many good places to eat. Now maybe I should go to the gym.

4. And last but not least, the bricked sidewalks that are so nicely accented by all the beautiful homes.

One Thousand Gifts.

Last spring I read the book One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp after a friend recommended the read. I rarely do my thoughts justice when trying to explain what I've gained from a book, but in the simplest of words I came out of it with the realization that genuine thankfulness sets your heart up to experience real joy.

Basically, the author goes on a metaphorical journey of naming the gifts in her life, and her discoveries from this habitual naming of gifts immediately prompted me to do the same. I've been writing in a small journal that I keep in my purse for the past several months and I'm already up to 457 gifts! It's harder than you think, at least for me. There are so many things I wouldn't have considered "gifts" before, but moreso just things I was entiteled to. This book changed my perspective on what I named as a gift, and I felt like hearing Ann's story gave me permission to name even the most insignificant of life's details. Seeing my rings sparkle, for example. Or getting home from work without much traffic. Even seeing the rollerblading commuter made my list. It's been so good for me to list them, and now I am LOOKING for the gifts of life because I don't want to miss a single one.

Below you'll find a few of the gifts I named this week.

DC Bike Party.

On Wednesday night we had our usual mid-week debate of whether to get outside on a bike ride, cuddle up and read, go to the gym (we joined a gym!), or watch just ONE more episode of Arrested Development. Obviously not an easy decision, but we opted for the bike ride. About 3 minutes into our outing, we were riding down East Capitol Street with the Capitol building illuminated before us when we noticed a dark mass with blinking lights and party music approaching. As we got closer the dark mass turned out to be 60+ people on bikes, with a DJ system in tow. We passed by them, wide-eyed I might add, and were graciously invited to join. So we did. It was the DC Bike Party!

Three Foxes Vineyard.

When we woke up to a humid-free, sunshiny day this Sunday we had no other choice but to spend our time in the glorious outdoors. We spend a lot of our outside time these days biking around DC (which I love!), but we thought the introductory weather to fall called for a special outdoor outing. We did a little research in Washingtonian Magazine, and headed to Virginia with our sights set on a day at the vineyard. We ended up at Three Foxes Vineyard where we tasted their selection of wines before sitting down for a glass at a table in the vines. We had the nicest time sipping wine and soaking up as much Vitamin D as we could.

Welcome, From The Wisharts!

Hi all! We made a blog! We're well into month three of marriage, and we marvel daily at the fact we get to be together for the rest of our lives. It's so much fun! I found myself wanting to overload my photography blog with posts of our life as newlyweds, and so this little corner of the internet was created instead. I hope to share snippets of our adventures, funny stories, and way too many pictures of Aaron. Getting married is the greatest thing we've ever done, and we're so glad to have you along for the ride!

Blogs We Love

There are so many places on this world wide web of ours to get inspired. For me, much of it comes from those in the blogging community. I enjoy reading blogs on families, style, home decor, or really anything real and engaging accompanied by great writing and beautiful pictures. Below I've linked to some of my favorite places to get inspired:

Cup of Jo
Love Taza
Cest Christine
Design Sponge
Design Love Fest

This is where Aaron nerds it up:

The Wall Street Journal
The Atlantic
Slate Magazine
Doggy Head Tilt
Unabashedly Prep
